Renegade (ren-i-geyd) (noun): A person who abandons a party, movement, etc. and goes over to the other side; traitor; turncoat.

 

China considers Taiwan a renegade province that must be united with the mainland by force if necessary.

 

Epoch (ep-uh k) (noun):

 

1.            The beginning of a distinctive period in the history of anything.

2.            A particular period of time marked by distinctive features or events.

 

His paper, published in 1847, marked an epoch in the history of natural science.
