Cusp (kuhsp) (Noun):

 

1)            The zodiacal degree that marks the beginning of a house or a sign

Being born in a cusp is generally considered to be lucky.

2)            A point that marks the beginning of a change

Mankind now, is standing on the cusp of a new era – one that is moulded by alternative energy resources.

                 

Talisman (tal-is-muhn) (Noun):

 

1)  A stone, ring, or other object, engraved with figures or characters supposed to possess occult powers and worn as an amulet or charm

               The talisman kept the sorcerer safe during his voyage into hostile lands.

2)  Anything whose presence exercises a remarkable or powerful influence on human feelings or actions

                Even though their talismanic striker Didier Drogba is injured, Ivory Coast still has plenty of firepower to overcome or at least draw with the Brazilians.
