Crony (kroh-nee) (Noun):

 

1)            A close friend or companion; chum; buddy

Over the years, the dog has proved to be man’s best crony.

Ricochet (rik-uh-shey):

  

1)            [Noun] The motion of an object or a projectile in rebounding or deflecting one or more times from the surface over which it is passing or against which it hits a glancing blow

 

The ricochet of the tennis ball took a lot of time to die down after being bounced on one of the walls of a small room with a lot of speed.

The ball ricocheted off the wall towards us.
